Opti-Shield Liquid Paint Protection Film
What is a liquid paint protection film?

Traditional paint protection film (PPF) has been around for decades. It is an extruded film that sticks to your exterior painted surfaces. It is considered a high-impact resistant product. After that came ceramic coatings. They provide excellent gloss, chemical resistance, ease of clean, and preservation of exterior surfaces.
Opti-Shield is a modern advancement in exterior ceramic coating technology. Traditional PPF is extremely expensive. Most clients only put it on part of their vehicle to reduce the cost. Opti-Shield allows you to have a much more durable, protective product applied to your exterior surfaces. It is considered a light to medium-duty impact and abrasion resistant protectant. We say light to medium-duty because you can choose two layers or four layers. Four layers offers much more protection from the elements. Four layers is much thicker and more dense than two. Four layers has a higher concentration of silicon carbide as well.
Exterior ceramic coatings don't provide any impact and abrasion resistance. They help to reduce wash scratches by creating a surface that reduces friction and the dirt's ability to "hook" onto the clear coat.
Traditional PPF is spongy, thick, and soft. It can be hard to clean and can get stained up. It is able to self-heal. Some coatings self-heal as well.
Opti-Shield self-heals, can be polished, repaired, and reapplied. Four layer is about 30 microns in thickness. It forms a brand new top layer of the clear coat. Since it is pure Silicon Carbide, it integrates (becomes part of) into the clear coat just like other Opti-Coat Silicon carbide coatings.
All three of these different types of vehicle protection have their pros and cons. Weigh the options. See what works best for you. If you drive on the Belt Way every day and drive bumper-to-bumper traffic you may need PPF. If you're never on the highway or drive less than the average, a traditional coating may be best. If you are somewhere in between you may need Opti-Shield.
The cool thing about Opti-Shield is that it is best when applied to the whole vehicle just like traditional coatings. It makes sense that the highest value is protecting every square inch of the exterior rather than one third of it.
